Castle of Balleroy

Built in 1631 by the famous architect François Mansart (1598-1666) at the request of Jean de Choisy, Château de Balleroy and the village form one of the first urban plans that inspired other castles, including Versailles.

All the buildings were built ex-nihilo. The castle has retained almost all of its original layout and is therefore a major witness to the innovations that have emerged in the architecture of the 17th century.

In 1970, Malcolm S. Forbes, owner of an important American press group, acquired the castle, which was then completely restored and refurnished. Today, his four sons and his daughter continue his work.
